Most mangakas draw their backgrounds...but if it looks like a real place, most likely it was drawn from a photo, not photoshop.

i think most of the "outside" pictures in this manga are real photos gone thru photoshop
I did the same once, really turns out like this.
I disagree.
It is unfortunate that people think that any art that looks slightly tedious must have been done in Photoshop.
Maybe Azuma Kiyohiko just has talent? I mean, he is a manga-ka... it would not be that ridiculous for him to draw those scenes himself.
However, I do realize he could have just used a computer... -__-
